October Newsletter
Meet our Membership Coordinator, Sharmilla Sands!
We are starting off another great year in Club sports! This fall, the Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, and Men’s Hockey teams will be competing.
The Women’s Club Rugby team started the season off well with a 27-5 win against Bowling Green State University on September 16th. They will be back in action at home on October 14th against Saginaw Valley State University at 1 pm.
The Men’s Club Rugby program is learning to compete in the Division I category this fall. They tied their first game with Oakland University 19-19. Their next home game will be against Saginaw Valley State University at 1 pm on October 13th.
The Women’s Volleyball team will start their season with a home game on October 6th against Washtenaw Community College at 1 pm.
The Men’s Hockey team will join the ACHA in their first year of existence. The team’s first games didn’t come out in their favor, but were against teams that were considered the top in the league. Their next home game on Saturday, October 13th at 4 pm vs Aquinas College will benefit breast cancer awareness. All proceeds from the event will benefit a local breast cancer fund. Come support your Warriors as they put breast cancer on ice!
During our Winter seasons, both Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will compete. Men’s Basketball will have their first game on Saturday, October 6th against Central Michigan University at 4 pm.
The Dance team plans to perform in the Winter at club and varsity basketball games.
The Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams will be competing during the Spring.
The Club Sports teams are entirely self-funded, and require a great deal of work and dedication by the athletes. Come out and support our teams!

Interview with Intramural GA, Justin Harden
"Coming into Wayne State as the new Graduate Assistant, one of my goals is to continue to raise Intramural participation levels throughout all sports. More specifically, I want to raise the level of female participation within Intramurals. One way I plan on facilitating this growth is by offering a women's league for every sport that we offer. Additionally, we have reached out to the Sororities about our programs and highlighted the benefits that they can provide. In the winter, we are looking to have a few one day tournaments exclusively for females. Some of the possibilities we are looking into are a 3on3 basketball tournament, a 4on4 volleyball tournament, and a potential indoor soccer tournament. We are always open to new ideas and about activities and sports, so if you have any ideas or suggestions that could work with Wayne State, please feel free to contact me at justin.harden@wayne.edu."
