Register on pipeline for LFA 2560, the two credit course designed specifically for incoming freshmen. Choose which section you would like to take based on the scheduled trip dates. For detailed directions on how to use pipeline, click here.

The trips are designed to completely orient incoming freshmen to the college experience at Wayne State University. The students can use the trip to form relationships with the other 28 incoming freshmen, meet faculty and staff from the university, get a better understanding of university departments and services, and most importantly, have fun!

Each trip will be led by an upperclassman student leader. Dr. Christy  Nolan, Director of Campus Recreation will also be on each trip. Additionally, one or two WSU “experts” will be accompanying the group. These experts are employees of the university who work for the WSU Police Department, Counseling and Psychological Services, the Academic Success Center or the Department of Kinesiology. During the day the group will be challenged on the water or hiking trail, and in the evenings around the campfire they will be challenged with in depth conversations about how to succeed on campus. There will be formal and informal conversations about study skills, team building, dealing with stress and many other varying topics.

All camping and canoeing supplies will be provided for the students so there is no need to worry about sleeping bags or tents. Upon registration for KIN 2560 students will be given additional guidance about what types of clothing are appropriate on the trips. There will be a pre-trip meeting for each section and students will be provided with dry bags to pack their clothing.

Continue the journey on campus!

The adventure trips are just Phase I of LFA 2560 Freshmen Quests. Throughout the fall semester, students in LFA 2560 will meet four times as a class. The classroom sessions will build upon some of the skills learned while camping. Students will explore their leadership skills and study skills. They will also learn valuable planning skills to ensure that they create their own timeline for graduation and stay on task. They will explore career options and learn valuable resume writing and interviewing techniques. The students will be assigned readings and will have assigned responses that will be turned in for credit. There is a $75 classroom activity fee, which can be paid at the Mort Harris RFC. Students earn 2 credits for LFA 2560.

If you have another class on Fridays, don't worry!  Most conflicts are easily resolved! If you are unable to register for LFA 2560 due to a schedule conflict, simply fill out the Override Approval Form and return it to Dr. Christy Nolan. You can either fax it to Dr. Nolan at (313) 577-5843 or email it to Cnolan@wayne.edu.
