Future Professionals in Recreation
Future Professionals in Recreation is a student organization that was created during the fall semester of 2013. This organization was created by Nicole Arends and Justin Harden. Doctor Christy Nolan also helped advise the creation of this student org. Nicole Arends was a former volleyball player at Wayne State, as well an employee at the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. She is now currently a Graduate Assistant at Ball State University for their Recreation department. Justin Harden served as the Graduate Assistant for intramurals here at Wayne State and is now currently the Supervisor for Intramurals and Club Sports.
This organization was created to help students realize the type of opportunities that are out there, both as students and professionals, in campus recreation, athletics, student affairs, and student life. It was also created to give students some basic understanding on areas such as resume building, cover letter writing, interviewing skills, networking, and dinner etiquette. All of which are essential when applying for that first or next job in your life. This organization also provides students with workshops and conference opportunities. Each student under this organization can get financial help to attend some of these conferences or workshops.
In the past, Future Professional in Recreation have hosted workshops at the Mort Harris RFC where we taught our members and nonmembers about resume building, the importance of networking, and how to apply for a graduate assistant. In the upcoming school year, the organization will look to host more workshops and continue to help prepare students for their professional careers.
This year, the organization is looking for new students to step-up and fill some of the voided spaces within this organization. President, Vice President, and Treasurer are all open for the upcoming 2016 Fall Semester.
