Fall 2019 Adventure Trips & Workshops

Ice Climbing at Peabody's

  • Trip Date: February 8th 

  • Trip Time: Leave Mort Harris RFC at 1:00pm. 

  • Trip Info: Meet at the MHRFC at 12:45 and head to Peabody's. Climb from 3-7pm and head back to campus. Arrive back on campus around 8:30pm. 

  • Cost: $50 for WSU students, includes transportation, equipment rental, and instruction. $__ for non-students. 

  • Required Pre Trip Meeting: Thursday, January 30th at 8:30pm. 

Archery and Snowshoeing at the Detroit Outdoor Adventure Center

  • Trip Date: February 28th  

  • Trip Time: Leave Mort Harris at 11:45 

  • Trip Info: Meet at the MHRFC at 11:30 and take the bus to OAC. Shoot some arrows and try out some snowshoes from 1-3. Arrive back on campus around 4.  

  • Cost: $30 for WSU Students, includes transportation, equipment rental, and instruction. $__ for non-students. 

  • Required Pre Trip Meeting: Thursday, February 20th at 8:30pm 

Outdoor Climbing at Grand Ledge

  • Trip Date:  March 28

  • Trip Time: Leaves Mort Harris RFC at 9:30am.  

  • Trip Info: Meet at the MHRFC at 9:15am and head to Grand Ledge. Climb for about 4 hours and eat a packed lunch. Head back to campus and arrive around 4pm.  

  • Cost: $40 for WSU Students, includes transportation, all climbing gear, and instruction. $45 for non-students. 

  • Required Pre Trip Meeting: Thursday, March 26 at 8:30pm at MHRFC

Winter 2020 Workshops

We're starting our second year of Adventure Programming Workshops. Sign up for all of these can be done at the climbing wall desk from 4-11pm, Monday through Friday and 2-7pm Saturday and Sunday. All of these workshops are free. 

Snowperson Building

Join us in some winter fun as we build a snowperson community! Meet us at Mort Harris and we will walk to the farmer's market area to build our snowpeople. Be sure to dress warmly, a hat and gloves are a must! 

  • Date: Thursday, January 23 
  • Time: 3-5pm 
  • Location: Meet at MHRFC, move to farmer's market area 

Knot Tying

Learn all you need to know about knots in this workshop! We will be learning the importance of safety knots when climbing high on outdoor walls, knots that will make your camping experience 10x easier, and knots to just impress your friends with. Rope will be provided, hope to see you all there! 

  • Date: Tuesday, February 18 
  • Time: 7-8pm 

Tack Back the Tap Water Bottle Decorating

Take back the tap is an on campus group that promotes the need to get rid of single use plastics!  They will be hosting their second water bottle decorating party here at the gym, and will help educate us as to how to reuse plastics and avoid them altogether! Bring stickers or a reusable water bottle for decorating!

  • Time: 6pm

Setting with the Setters

Ever wonder what it takes to be a setter? Now you don't have too! Come and watch the setting process that our setters at the Mort Harris go through. They will talk through their setting style, and show you how a beta gets formed on the wall! If you have ever been curious about how the minds of setters work, come to this workshop!
